HOA NANG

Hoa Nang is an organic rice producer that works with smallholder farmers in Ben Tre province in southern Vietnam. This area produces 80% of the country’s rice, but conventional farming methods have led to the pollution and degradation of the Mekong River and surrounding areas. Hoa Nang stands out for recruiting and training farmers in organic rice farming, enabling them to earn more income while improving the health of farmers, consumers, and the environment. The healthy water on the paddy and its waterways enables farmers to raise shrimp and crabs for additional food and income, and contributes to a thriving ecosystem that supports local fish and bird populations. Beneficial Returns provided a $200,000 loan to help Hoa Nang purchase organic inputs for farmers at the start of the growing season.
