Algaex is a certified B Corp that sources seaweed from nearly 350 fishers and former fishers who harvest wild algae along the Peruvian coast. The company promotes sustainable harvesting practices that protect fragile marine ecosystems while generating stable incomes for low-income coastal communities. After processing, seaweed is used as an ingredient in food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agriculture inputs, and animal nutrition. Beneficial Returns has provided two loans to strengthen Algaex’s processing infrastructure and expand its value-added production capacity. These investments support the company’s transition from commodity exports to higher-margin products, increasing seaweed purchases and helping stabilize incomes for collectors during periods of global price volatility.
